Sunset Poultry

A long narrow driveway to a beautiful home at the top of the rolling hills, overlooking four poultry barns, and the beautiful North Shore Mountains.

That is Sunset Poultry, owned by Sue Fauchon. It’s always a treat to visit Sue, an amazing hostess and loves to share her home, her baking and her stories.

Sue grew up in Langley, and never knew she would become so involved in the chicken industry as a lifetime career. It all started in the summer of 1967 when she began working for Cedardale Poultry Farms, and then continued with the new Western Hatchery for many years. Sue married Allan Fauchon in 1979, at which time they incorporated a new company of their own, Horizon Hatchery. In the early days, Sue and Al custom hatched their broiler chicks at Sanders Poultry Farms, where she also managed the office.  In 1985 they purchased their broiler farm, Sunset Poultry. Around the same time, they became popular for their love of hosting, the annual Christmas party for growers and associates, but also many family celebrations. If you didn’t meet Sue at the hatchery, you may know her from “Chicken Pickens”, a newsletter that she produced, sharing industry knowledge “gossip” and current events.

The business expanded and they built the new hatchery in 1989, which they owned and managed until the sale in April 1995 to Fraser Valley Chick Sales.

Sadly, Allan passed away in April 2007.  Sue continued to farm until selling the quota in December 2021. Although Sue is now “retired”, on the farm, she’s as active as ever. If you don’t find her sliding down the slopes in Whistler, she is out sailing on “Katrina Mist” in Semiahmoo Bay. That’s another story for another day!
