Locarno Family
For Mark and Heidi Schurmann, dairy farming runs in the family. These third generation farmers began their journey in the dairy industry when Mark’s grandparents purchased the Abbotsford, BC farm in 1956, and continued with his parents transitioning to the farm in 1965.
The Schurmanns are responsible for 400 head, primarily young stock, with 180 of the herd designated as milkers. Mark has a dual role, being both herdsman and milker. In addition to her full-time role as mother to their three young children, Heidi manages to contribute to the daily operations of the farm. This hard working BC born and raised couple are passionate about dairy farming and have a success story to prove it.
Balancing the changing nutritional requirements of a large herd can be a challenge. Thus, it is important to not only source the best feed but also the best supplier, one who knows the business and is dedicated to serving the family farm.
The Schurmanns had been looking for a change and appreciated the team and family approach offered to them by Clearbrook Grain & Milling. The company strives to provide top quality feed and technical competency with knowledgeable, educated, experienced sales and service staff and dairy nutritionists. The balanced ration recommended to the Schurmanns has proven to be a winner.
“Clearbrook Grain & Milling knows that quality feed and excellent farm and feed management can make the difference between making money or losing money. They care as much or more about our operation’s success as we do ourselves.” – Mark Schurmann
